Saturday 9th September : Carey Marx, Tania Edwards, Tom Toal & Rik Carranza

Cary MarxCarey Marx has been a circuit favourite for years, mixing his own blend of dark humour with his mischievous and gleeful delivery.  His wilful disregard for the controversial and delicate is tempered beautifully by his ability to find joy in the most unexpected places. This  hilarious mix of edgy topics and playful gagsmithery can be seen at all the top clubs across the country with Marx regularly playing Jongleurs, Komedia and The Comedy Store and annually compering the largest festivals.

Carey has taken numerous critically acclaimed shows to Edinburgh Festival Fringe over the years. His 2013 show, Intensive Carey, was so successful that it was picked up by BBC Radio 4 in 2015 and developed into a R4 special.

Alongside his stand up, Carey has recorded a popular weekly topical podcast with comedian Barry Castagnola, called The Proper Gander. The hilarious show has received 5 star reviews from listeners and is available through iTunes.

“Excellent.”  The Guardian

“Unbelievably Funny.”  Kate Copstick, The Scotsman

Screengrab 2017-09-07 at 14.51.25Tania Edwards is a stand-up comedian and writer. Credits include Stand Up For The Week, Twit of the Year (Channel 4), Mock the Week, Après Ski (BBC2), and The Unbelievable Truth (Radio 4). She recently supported Katherine Ryan on her sell out tour.

Tania was a finalist in the Hackney Empire, Amused Moose, Leicester Square, Latitude, and Funny Women competitions. Her last solo show Tania Edwards: Electrifying was named in James Acaster’s top comedy picks for The Guardian, Glamour magazine’s top female comedians to see at the Fringe, and The Mirror’s top five jokes of the Fringe.

‘Akin to a female Simon Evans… a bit posh and something of a sociopath… fantastically seamy side to the material… also great with audience banter… sublime… brilliant’ – Chortle

226x332_EDM_22mp-31623Tom Toal is a comedian, writer and actor, hailing from the South East London town of Bexleyheath.

One of comedy’s rising stars he performed his debut show On The Scrapheap about the break-up of his 6 year relationship at the Edinburgh and Leicester Festivals in 2010 achieving widespread acclaim and reviews.

The follow up Rom-Coms and Revolutions followed in similar vein playing to a complete sell out audience for the full run.

In 2013 Tom Toal performed at The Comedy Reserve with The Pleasance at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and in 2014 TT became an Amused Moose Best Comedy Show finalist for his solo Edinburgh Festival Fringe show, Prequel. In March 2017, he opened gigs for Rob Brydon for some of Rob’s tour across the country.

One of Tom’s major strengths is his ability to adapt to his audience. Having hosted a range of events from Post Rock Bands album launch to benefit nights for the Socialist Workers Party, Tom has no trouble changing his style to suit the audience, whether it be Stag/Hen weekends, art centre events or corporate crowds.
