“Seriously funny” The Guardian
“…like a cross between Tony Hancock and Frankie Howerd. Stone is probably better than we deserve. Ultimately, it is the sheer quantity of funny material that really impresses” The List
NATYs 2017 runner-up & Leicester Mercury New Comedian of the Year 2017 Runner-up
BBC New Comedy Award 2016 finalist
Born and brought up in India, with degrees from Delhi University, Oxford University, the University of Chicago, half a PHD, a successful career in investment banking, three kids and a bizarrely gigantic Labrador, Sindhu Vee decided it was time to make her parents proud and start a career in comedy.
Sindhu performed her first ever gig in 2012 at the Funny Women Award’s heats – making it to the semi-finals and then a year later, the finals. With nerves of steel and some might say a slight competitive streak, Sindhu has also competed at the 2013 Amused Moose Comedy Awards (quarter finalist), in 2016 she was a finalist in the Comedy Knights Fresh Comedian of the Year competition and the BBC New Comedy Awards and has recently been nominated in the 2017 Leicester New Comedian of the Year awards, with the winner to be announced this February.
Following her hugely successful beginnings, it’s been a swift rise for Sindhu with invitations flying in to perform worldwide, from the US to India – where in 2014, Sindhu performed to sold out audiences in Delhi and featured in a television special, Rising Stars of Comedy on India’s premier English channel, NDTV. Most recently she was invited to join 5 Indian comics at Coimbatore’s Laughathon 2015 and was named in Shaadi-Etiyaadi’s (an Indian blog) among the top 18 comics in India.
Back on UK soil, Sindhu is already a firm favourite on the comedy circuit securing gigs across the country including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016) and two sell-out nights at London’s coveted Museum of Comedy with her solo show The Girl From Sindhustan.
Alongside stand-up Sindhu has a flourishing television & radio career, having performed live for the BBC Asian Network’s Big Comedy Night at the Watford Palace Theatre, BBC’s Asian Network Comedy Night at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and a support slot for Live From The BBC for BBC Worldwide. On radio Sindhu has appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour 70th Birthday Party and It’s a Funny World for BBC Scotland. She is also the voice of ‘Auntie G’ on Preeya Kalidas’ weekly show, Kupid Kalidas for BBC Asian Network.
Most recently Sindhu appeared on Alan Davies As Yet Untitled for Channel Dave and currently has a number of projects in development including her newest solo show, Iguana Mum, set to debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this August.
