Friday 24th & Saturday 25th February : Carl Donnelly, Addy van der Borgh, Otiz Cannelloni, Nigel Ng & David Ward

Terrific bill of stand-up heavyweights this weekend, at “the friendliest comedy club in the country”, according to the Guardian.

Carl Donnelly

Carl started performing stand-up in 2005 and quickly established himself as one of the UK’s most exciting young comedians. His conversational, silly sense of humour has seen him win a host of awards (Chortle Best Newcomer 2007; Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year 2007; among others) and become a regular at all of the finest comedy clubs in the UK and Ireland.

In 2009, Carl performed his debut solo show Relax Everyone, it’s Carl Donnelly! at the Edinburgh Fringe for which he was nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Newcomer. Also nominated for the Fosters Comedy Award in 2013, Carl has since returned to Edinburgh with five further solo shows, his latest being the very well-reviewed Bad Man Tings in 2016.

Recently, Carl has been developing as an international act. This year will see him return to Australia for the Melbourne Comedy Festival, after his own successful tours of Australia and New Zealand in 2013 and 2015. He has performed at the biggest comedy festivals in the world (Montreal Just for Laughs, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Sydney Comedy Festival, Kilkenny Cat Laughs etc).

Carl has also appeared on various TV shows including Mock The WeekDave’s One Night StandStand Up for the WeekRussell Howard’s Good News and Stand Up CentralAlan Davies: As Yet Untitled, Follow The FootballFootball Tonightand Comedy Store. He is also a regular on radio appearing as a guest on such shows as BBC 5live’s The Back End of Next Week, Radio 4’s Loose Ends and Act Your Age as well as being a regular guest on talkSPORT. He has also co-hosted a radio show for the Fubar Radio app after his acclaimed podcast which he recorded with Chris Martin.

“Excellent, fast-rising comic with pacy anecdotal routines”
Sunday Times

“Donnelly has developed a style that is the antithesis of the loud, sweaty, manic comic so prevalent on the telly and live tours at the moment. This is stand up with valium: near horizontal levels of louche that take the mundane stories of everyday life and turns them into stretches of self deprecating silliness”
The Guardian

Addy van der Borgh

Addy van der Borgh has that rare talent of making people laugh as soon as he walks on stage. He is a great performer of highly acclaimed and original material, an ability noticed immediately by the BBC when he appeared on the Stand-up Show on BBC1 after only one year as a comedian. He has subsequently appeared on Live At The Comedy Store for Comedy Central, Live At Jongleurs and The World Stands Up for Sky TV and the BBC3 series from Baby Cow Productions, Brain Candy. He has also written and co-presented twenty episodes of TV Meltdown for Sky 1 with Kirsty Gallacher (2004 / 2005), has acted in a number of voiceovers for radio and television and has appeared on many radio shows including the legendary Loose Ends on Radio 4.

‘An unassuming comic genius’ (Metro)

‘Brilliant natural clown’ (The Daily Telegraph)

‘… van der Borgh can reel off cracking gags and compete with the best freestylers such as Ross Noble’ (Evening Standard)

‘An excellent stand-up with intelligence and wit’ (The Guardian)
